Unique Disability ID – UDID Card is issued by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment of the Central Government to empower the disabled people of the country, to provide them the benefits of government schemes in a transparent manner and to free them from the hassle of repeated medical examinations and paper certificates. Earlier, Disability Certificates were issued in paper format only by District Hospitals or Medical Boards, which was a big challenge to maintain and get recognized in different states. Now, through the ‘Swavlamban’ portal, uniform, plastic ‘UDID cards’ containing barcode and QR code are being made across the country. This card is valid throughout the country and through it, railway and bus concessions, scholarship, pension, accessories and reservation facilities can be easily availed. If you or any member of your family wants to get a Disability Certificate and UDID Card, then the entire process from online application to download at home is very simple.
UDID card is a centralized, biometric-verified and unique digital identity card, which records the complete details of the health and disability of a person with disability.
-
Single Document of Identity: After making this card, disabled people do not need to carry dozens of copies of original medical files to government departments, schools, colleges or while travelling.
-
Pan-India Validity: Older certificates made at the state level were sometimes not valid in other states, whereas the UDID card is equally acceptable across India.
-
Color-Based Identification: The card is color coded based on the percentage of disability—white (less than 40%), yellow (40% to 79%) and blue (for 80% or more severe disability).
All those persons who are affected by any of the 21 types of disabilities (such as visually impaired, deaf-mute, locomotor disability, mental retardation, autism, cerebral palsy etc.) listed in the ‘Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016’ (RPwD Act 2016) can apply for UDID card.
