UCI President – News India Live

Geneva, June 22 (HS). Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) President David Lappartient said on Friday that watching the Olympic cycling competitions is the best opportunity for fans to experience the natural beauty of the city of Paris.

“I am expecting something wonderful to happen at the Paris Olympic Games. Paris is a very prestigious city. It is an open museum. The Olympics will give fans an opportunity to see Paris,” Lappartient said in an interview with Xinhua.

Lappartient, 51, was born in Pontivy in the northwest of France.

“We have all these disciplines in very prestigious locations. Only cycling competitions can give their fans the opportunity to see all these great scenes in Paris,” Lappartient said.

The cycling competition at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games will be held at the Place de la Concordes, the largest square in the centre of Paris and located north of the River Seine.

The road cycling routes start at the Trocadero and will pass famous Parisian landmarks, including the Louvre and the Eiffel Tower.

He said, “There are a lot of cycling events in a very iconic location in Paris, and cycling on the road is also free. So I say it is a kind of open museum. You will see all the iconic buildings. So I say cycling is the only sport through which you can really see the city.”

The only concern for Lappartient is the weather in Paris. But he is not worried about the athletes, but about the fans.

He said, “Athletes will cycle whatever the weather. It will be less difficult for the athletes. But for the fans or spectators, without a roof, it will probably be more difficult.”

There are five disciplines for cycling competitions at Paris 2024, including road cycling, track, mountain bike, BMX racing and BMX freestyle.
