New Delhi, June 29 (HS). UAE batsman Mohammad Usman announced his retirement from international cricket on Friday. The Lahore-born middle-order batsman represented the UAE in 85 international matches (38 ODIs and 47 T20s) over six years.
Usman made his T20I debut against the Netherlands in February 2016 and his ODI debut against Scotland a few months later. Overall, he scored 1008 runs in 38 ODIs at an average of 31.50 with one century and four half-centuries, while in 47 T20Is, he scored 891 runs with three half-centuries. He was also part of the Asia Cup squad in 2016, where he scored 176 runs in seven matches and was the top scorer for the UAE.
Usman was born in Lahore and has played five first-class and 58 List-A matches. His 1517 List-A runs came at an average of 34.47 and included nine fifties and a century. He last played an ODI and T20I in February 2022 against Oman and Nepal respectively. The 38-year-old expressed gratitude and hoped to remain a part of cricket even after retirement.
Usman was quoted as saying through a press release, “It has been an incredible journey with the UAE cricket team and the cricket board. I would like to thank everyone who has played a role in my journey, including my fellow players, coaches and other support staff. I feel blessed and proud to have had the opportunity to represent the UAE for 85 international matches. I am looking forward to the next chapter of my life as I continue to be involved with the sport. I wish the UAE team and players all the best in a very exciting time for the sport in the country.”
