Amid the ongoing tensions between India and Canada, the Canadian government has recently announced additional security checks for travelers traveling to India. However, Canada has now withdrawn its order. This step has been taken amid diplomatic tension between the two countries over the killing of Khalistan terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. Therefore, now Indians are not strictly checked at the airport.
There will be no strict checking at the airport
On Monday, Canada’s Transport Minister Anita Anand announced the temporary protocol. Under which the security check of passengers coming to India will have to be increased. He said that the new security measures have been implemented with great care. This notification comes amid increasing tension between India and Canada.
Long queues were seen at the airport
Now the government has not mentioned the reasons for removing the new protocol. Measures taken by the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) include screening passengers and baggage at airports before entering restricted areas. According to reports, flights to India were delayed due to extra checks and long queues at the airport.
Why are relations between India and Canada sour?
Relations between India and Canada have soured after Canadian PM Justin Trudeau alleged the involvement of Indian agents in the killing of Khalistan terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. Trudeau had made this allegation in September last year. Tensions between the two countries further escalated when Canadian police accused Indian diplomats of involvement in Nijjar’s murder.
