Congress taunts the government's UPS announcements : Congress on Sunday took a dig at the central government over the Unified Pension Scheme. Congress said that the U in UPS means the U-turn of the Modi government. The opposition has launched a strong attack after the central government announced the Unified Pension Scheme on Saturday. The Union Cabinet has approved this scheme and 23 lakh central employees will benefit from it. Employees who joined government service after January 1, 2004 will get the benefit of the UPS scheme. Under UPS, it is ensured that employees get a pension equal to 50 percent of their salary.
'The power of the people has prevailed over the arrogance of power'
Fulfilling the long-pending demands of government employees, a Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved the Unified Pension Scheme (UPS), which guarantees pension. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge attacked the government over UPS, saying the 'U' in UPS means Modi government's U-turn! After June 4, the power of the Prime Minister has diminished. The power of the people has shattered his arrogance.
It is worth noting that the results of the Lok Sabha elections were declared on June 4. In which BJP's dream of winning more than 400 seats was shattered. Kharge said, 'Withdrawal of long term capital gain/index in the budget, Wakf bill also had to be sent to JPC, withdrawal of Broadcasting bill and withdrawal of lateral entry in UPSC are the prime examples of this.
'We will save people from autocratic government'
Sharing the post on social media platform X, the Congress President wrote, 'We will continue to ensure accountability and save 140 crore Indians from this autocratic government!' Let us tell you that the new pension scheme guarantees a minimum pension of Rs 10,000 per month on retirement after at least 10 years of service. 23 lakh central government employees will benefit from UPS and if state governments also implement UPS, the number of employees benefiting from the scheme will increase to 90 lakh.
You will get many benefits in UPS
Announcing the UPS, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that in case of death of an employee, his spouse will be given a guaranteed family pension. Apart from this, there will also be dearness relief on the pension, which will be calculated according to inflation from time to time. The contribution of employees in UPS will be 10 percent and the government's contribution will be 18.5 percent. Old Pension Scheme (OPS) has been implemented in many opposition-ruled states. The issue of implementing the old pension scheme was also a topic of discussion in the Lok Sabha elections. For this reason, in view of the displeasure of the people, the government has decided to implement UPS instead of NPS. OPS is not financially sustainable as it does not get significant contribution and it also proves to be a burden on the government treasury.
