Typhoon Yagi in the Philippines: At least 14 people were killed in floods and landslides triggered by a powerful typhoon that hit northern Philippines on Tuesday, disaster response officials said. Tropical Storm Yagi hit the South China Sea at 75 kmph after moving past Paoay City in Ilocos Norte province and reached 125 kmph gusts, according to the weather department. Yagi is expected to intensify into a typhoon as it moves northwest across the sea and heads towards South China.
People were advised to remain alert
Typhoon warnings have been issued for most provinces in the northern Philippines. People in low-lying mountainous villages hit by rain and floods in Luzon, the country's most populous region, have been alerted to the danger of landslides. Typhoon Yagi, known locally as Enteng, has increased monsoon rains in the Philippines. Schools and government offices were closed on Tuesday due to heavy rains in densely populated Manila and Luzon.
