Two villagers beaten up on charges of practicing exorcism | News India


Chatra, 03 September (HS). A case of assault on the charges of witchcraft and exorcism has come to light on Tuesday from Barhed village of Lawalaung police station in Chatra district, which is affected by extremism. As soon as the information was received, the police reached the spot and started investigation.

According to the information, Dhaneshar Ganjhu and Maneshar Ganjhu, residents of Barhed village, were beaten up by some people of the village on the charges of casting ghosts and practicing exorcism.

Giving information about the incident, Rajnath Ganjhu, son of Dhaneshwar Ganjhu, said that Kailash Ganjhu, Chhathu Ganjhu, Tulsi Ganjhu and Mithlesh Ganjhu got furious and beat up my father and uncle with sticks accusing them of being exorcists. After the beating, all of them fled as soon as they got information about the police arrival. Dhaneshwar and Manesar Ganjhu have received internal injuries in the beating. Both are being treated in a private hospital. Police station in-charge Rupesh Kumar said that the matter is being investigated. Action will be taken against the culprits. It is a legal offense to beat up someone by accusing them of being witches and exorcists.
