Purnia, 21 August (HS). Two accused found guilty in the ganja smuggling case have been sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1 lakh each. If the fine is not paid, an additional punishment of 6 months imprisonment will be given. The accused who got the punishment are Sukhleshwar Hira alias Chhotu village Malaibari police station Khetri, district Kamrup Assam and Dinesh Dev Verma village Maniramtha, police station Chirap Mohanpur, Tripura.
This sentence has been pronounced in the court of Ninth Additional District and Session Judge Gaurav Singh on a case registered in Baisi police station. A total of 6 witnesses were recorded in the court in this case.
Special (NDPS) Public Prosecutor Shambhu Anand of this case said that the then Baisi Police Station Head Satish Kumar Himanshu had lodged an FIR. He received secret information on the date of incident 13 February 2021 at around 10 am that illegal ganja was coming to Purnia from Dalkola. A police team was formed and checking was started near the Integrated Check Post Dalkola. When a Tata Sumo registration number ASO 25-7583 coming from Dalkola was signaled to stop, the accused got down from it and started running. With the help of police force, they were chased and caught. On searching the vehicle, illegal ganja weighing 99 kg 795 grams was recovered in 81 packets secretly hidden in plastic. The above sentence was given to the accused on the basis of the testimony of the witnesses presented in the court and other evidence available on record.
