
Gorakhpur, 14 August. The traditional wrestling competition held for years to commemorate the holy festival of Nag Panchami will be held in the Gorakhnath temple complex on 16 and 17 August. As per the intention of Gorakshpeethadhishwar and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, this time in this wrestling competition, which has been of state level format for the last few years, the winners of all three titles will be given a prize of Rs 1.01 lakh. The Chief Minister himself will be present on August 17 to encourage the wrestlers and reward the winners in the final matches of the two-day state level Senior Prize Money Men’s Wrestling Competition organized by the Sports Department of the State Government and the District Wrestling Association.
International wrestler Dinesh Singh, President of the District Wrestling Association, said that there is an ancient tradition of indigenous sports on the festival of Nag Panchami. Gorakhnath temple also has a deep connection with this tradition. Every year a wrestling competition is organized in the temple on this festival. To promote wrestling, the format of the competition has been expanded in the last few years on the instructions of Gorakshpeethadhishwar and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. He told that the state level senior prize money men’s wrestling competition will be held in three categories – Uttar Pradesh Kesari, Uttar Pradesh Kumar and Veer Abhimanyu.
Shri Singh said that about 325 wrestlers from sports colleges, sports hostels, various divisions and districts of the state will participate in the competition. The winners (all three) of Uttar Pradesh Kesari, Uttar Pradesh Kumar and Uttar Pradesh Veer Abhimanyu titles will be given a prize of Rs 1.01 lakh in cash and mace, the runners-up will be given a prize of Rs 51 thousand and the two wrestlers standing third in all the three titles will be given a prize of Rs 25 thousand each. Apart from this, all the wrestlers will be given an amount of Rs 500-500 for each wrestling bout by the Sports Department. The wrestling competition will be inaugurated on August 16 at 12:30 pm, while the closing and prize distribution program will take place on August 17 at 3 pm. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will be present in the closing ceremony as the chief guest to encourage the players and distribute prizes.
