Two brothers convicted and sentenced in coal smuggling case

Dumka, 25 July (HS). On Thursday, the court convicted two brothers in the coal smuggling case and sentenced them. The sentence was pronounced by the court of Judicial Magistrate, First Class Walter Bhangra. The convicted accused are Michael Soren and Barsan Soren, residents of Bilkandi village of Kathikund police station area.

The court convicted the accused under section 30(1)(2) of the Indian Penal Code and the Mines Act on the basis of the testimony of seven witnesses as per the FIR lodged. The accused has been sentenced to six months' imprisonment under section 30(1) of the Mines Act and one year's imprisonment under section 30(2) and a fine of Rs 5,000. Both the sentences will run simultaneously. The case is of the year 2017.

The then station in-charge of Kothikund police station, Sachin Kumar Das, had lodged an FIR on his own written complaint on 22 March 2017. In the FIR, it was told that information was received that illegal coal was being excavated from the Harinsingha forest area of ​​Shikaripara and taken for smuggling. On receiving the information, the police force along with the police force found two persons coming with illegal coal loaded on a tractor and a bike at Bagha Sola turn on the Shikaripara-Kathikund road. On the signal of the police to stop, the bike rider and the tractor driver left the vehicle and ran away. The police force was successful in chasing and catching the tractor driver Michael Soren. The absconding bike rider was identified as Barsan Soren.
