In the 16 seasons of IPL so far, fans have experienced the thrill of many close matches. Whereas 22 hat-tricks have been registered. In the 2017 season, two bowlers have achieved the feat of taking a hat-trick in a single day. IPL 2024 will have a colorful start on 22nd March. The opening match of the tournament will be played between the defending champions Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore (CSK VsRCB). During this cricket festival which started in the year 2008, the fans have got the gift of an exciting cricket. This is why the popularity of IPL is increasing with every passing season.

a hat-trick achievement

During the Indian Premier League, fans have not only experienced the thrill of many close matches, but the captivating performances of many players have also won their hearts. So far 87 centuries have been scored in the tournament while 22 hat-tricks have been registered. Virat Kohli has the maximum number of 7 centuries in the IPL while leg spinner Amit Mishra has the maximum number of three hat-tricks in his name. Talking about the special occasions of IPL, there have been two such occasions when two batsmen of the same team have scored centuries in the same innings. Apart from this, in the 2017 season, two bowlers have achieved the feat of taking a hat-trick in a single day.

century in one innings

This was the first time in IPL 2016 that two batsmen scored centuries in an innings, when RCB's AB de Villiers (129*) and Virat Kohli (109) scored centuries against Gujarat Lions on 14 May. Thanks to the contribution of both the batsmen, RCB team was successful in scoring 248 runs for 3 wickets in 20 overs. In reply, Gujarat Lions were all out for 104 runs in 18.4 overs and lost the match by a huge margin of 144 runs. The feat of two batsmen scoring centuries in an innings was repeated in IPL 2019 when Sunrisers Hyderabad's David Warner (100*) and Jonny Bairstow (114) scored centuries against RCB. In the match, Sunrisers made a huge score of 231 runs at the loss of two wickets in 20 overs and then bowled out RCB for 113 runs. SRH team won the match by 118 runs.

Same thing happened in the year 2017 also

Talking about scoring two hat-tricks in a single day in IPL, this happened on 14th April in the 2017 season. Samuel Badri and Andrew Tye scored this hat-trick. In the match against Mumbai Indians, RCB's Samuel Badree took a total of four wickets including a hat-trick. 'Player of the Match' Badri continuously hunted MI's Parthiv Patel, Mitchell McClenaghan and Rohit Sharma with the ball. This Caribbean bowler of Indian origin took 4 wickets for just 9 runs in his four over spell. However, despite Badri's hat-trick, RCB had to face defeat by 4 wickets. Batting first in the match, RCB team could score only 142 runs after losing five wickets in 20 overs. In reply, MI achieved the target for the loss of six wickets despite Badri's setback.

8 wickets in 20 overs

On April 14 itself, a hat-trick was scored in the next match between Rising Pune Supergiants and Gujarat Lions (RPS Vs GL). This hat-trick was scored by Gujarat Lions fast bowler Andrew Tye. Batting first in the match, RPS team scored 171 runs at the loss of 8 wickets in 20 overs. Man of the match Ty took five wickets for 17 runs in a spell of four overs. He completed the hat-trick by dismissing Ankit Sharma, Manoj Tiwari and Shardul Thakur on the first three balls of the 20th over of the innings. In reply, Gujarat Lions achieved the target by losing three wickets and won the match by seven wickets.

Same pattern in both hat-tricks

It could just be a coincidence that both the hat-tricks scored on 14 April 2017 were in the same order. Both Badri and Tye took the first two wickets as caught out and the last two wickets as bowled. After getting Parthiv Patel caught out by Gayle in the RCB vs MI match, Badri got McClenaghan caught out by Mandeep Singh on the next ball and then bowled Rohit Sharma. Similarly, in the RPS vs GL match, Andrew Tye got Ankit Sharma caught by McCullum, on the next ball he got Manoj Tiwari caught by Ishan Kishan while Shardul was bowled on the third ball of the over.
