Two arrested in Dhamtari for kidnapping a person posing as an excise officer and demanding Rs 5 lakh

Dhamtari, July 31 (HS). Two people kidnapped a person by claiming to be excise officers. They demanded five lakh rupees from him. On the complaint, the police arrested both the accused on Wednesday and sent them to jail.

According to the information received from Magarlod police, Rajendra Kumar Sahu, resident of Birjhuli, has filed a written complaint in Magarlod police station that he was in his grocery shop at around 8 pm on July 28. At the same time, two unknown persons came in a car without number plate, wearing scarves on their faces. They introduced themselves as being from the Excise Department and said that there is a complaint against him for illegally selling Mahua and asked him to come with them. When he refused to go, both of them forcibly made the victim sit in the car and kidnapped him and took him to Raipur via Mohandi Magarlod Panduka. While going on the way, both of them took off the scarves and said that you sell Mahua in large quantities. Action has to be taken against you. They demanded five lakh rupees when he did not want action. Amidst the terror, the victim agreed to give four lakh rupees. After this, the accused dropped the victim at Pachpedi Naka Raipur and asked him to give four lakh rupees on calling on a fixed time and day. Also, they kept his mobile with themselves.

On the report of the incident, the police registered a crime against the accused and started investigation. Meanwhile, on the night of July 30, while patrolling, the police found two people sitting in a car without number plate going from Megha towards Mohandi. On stopping the vehicle and asking for their name and address, they told their names as Niranjan Sahu, 34 years old resident of Bhaismundi and Nageshwar alias Golu Sahu, 31 years old resident of Sargi police station Magarlod. On being questioned about the number plate of the vehicle, they told that they had kept it out in the trunk. On opening the trunk of the said vehicle, the number plate and two towels were found. As per the information given by the victim, the vehicle used in the incident and both the suspects were brought to the police station and on Wednesday, when the victim was made to do identification process in front of the executive magistrate, the suspects were found to be the accused. The police arrested both of them in front of witnesses and took action against them.
