Two accused of assaulting transport inspector sentenced

Jaipur, 6 April (HS). In a 9-year-old case, the District Sessions Court has sentenced two accused, Rohitash and Gopal, to 5 years in jail for assaulting a transport inspector during official work and snatching cash and mobile phone. Along with this, the court has also imposed a total fine of Rs 14,400 on both the accused. The court has acquitted two other accused Krishna Kumar and Dinesh.

On behalf of the prosecution, Public Prosecutor Raghavendra Pareek said that Transport Inspector Rajesh Kumar Chaudhary had lodged an FIR at Bagru police station on February 25, 2015. It said that he was busy in his official work and at the same time, 5-6 people seriously assaulted him near Thikariya Toll Plaza on Ajmer Road and snatched his cash and other items and ran away. In this attack, the bone of his nose and the finger of his hand were also broken. Acting on the report, the police arrested the accused and presented a challan against them in the court. Medical examination revealed that the victim had 6 injuries on his body. In their defence, the accused said that a false case has been registered against them, they drive trucks and often have altercations with RTO employees. They keep harassing them. Therefore they should be acquitted. After hearing the arguments of both the parties, the court sentenced both the accused to imprisonment and fine on the basis of evidence and statements of witnesses.
