Trump exempted smartphones and computers from mutual tariffs

Washington: US President Donald Trump has given relief to smartphones and computers to calm domestic opposition against his mutual tariff and control inflation. Other products included in Trump’s relief list include semiconductor chips, telecom equipment, chip -making machinery, recording devices, data processing machines and printed circuit board assembly.

These consumer electronics are no longer manufactured in the US. Now, if we want to bring it back to local production, it can take years.

Including semiconductor manufacturing equipment in this relief list is very important for Taiwani manufacturing company TSMC. The company has announced huge investment in chip manufacturing facilities in the US.

However, their relief may be short -lived. This relief is associated with the initial tariff order. In this, various charges leveled currently by the country have not been taken into consideration. Supervisors suggest that these items can be particularly low and industry-specific tariffs can be imposed. This can be especially true in the case of China, as most of America’s imports are from China.

One such case is of semi -circulars. Trump has repeatedly announced a plan to levy fees. However, no specific rates have been announced yet. Currently, the regional tariff range is 25 percent. But it is not yet clear what types of rates will apply to chips and related components. The White House has not yet made any comments on the new guidelines.
