Who is JD Vance?

Born on August 2, 1984, in Middletown, Ohio, Vance was raised by his grandparents. He first served in the Iraq War before enlisting in the U.S. Marine Corps and enrolling at Ohio State University. He then graduated from Yale Law School.

He then gained fame with his 2016 memoir, “Hillbilly Elegy,” which became a bestseller. His book recounts his upbringing in Middletown, Ohio, and the cultural and economic challenges faced by the white working class in the Rust Belt region.

Vance began his political career by winning the Republican nomination in Ohio in 2021. He defeated Democratic candidate Tim Ryan in the general election and was sworn into office in January 2023.
