Trinamool Congress has lead in by-elections on 6 assembly seats of West Bengal

Kolkata, 23 November (HS). Counting of votes for the by-elections held on six assembly seats of West Bengal is underway. In the initial trends, Trinamool Congress is leading on all six seats. These seats are – Sitai, Madrihat, Taldangra, Medinipur, Naihati and Haroa.

In Haroa assembly constituency, Trinamool Congress candidate Sheikh Rabiul Islam has taken a huge lead of 22 thousand 082 votes. This lead has become stronger after the first and second rounds of counting.

In Medinipur, Trinamool Congress is leading by 5,836 votes after the second round of counting. Whereas in Naihati, Trinamool candidate Sanat Dey has secured a lead of 14 thousand 690 votes.

Madarihat, which was in the hands of BJP in 2021, is showing a trend in favor of Trinamool Congress this time. Here Trinamool is ahead by about five thousand votes. In Taldangra, Trinamool candidate Falguni Singh has taken a lead of 3,300 votes.

Trinamool candidate Sangeeta Rai has taken a lead of more than 15 thousand 300 votes in Sitai assembly constituency of Cooch Behar.

In the 2021 assembly elections, Trinamool Congress had won five of these six seats. Only Madarihat seat was held by BJP. This time Trinamool Congress aims to win all the six seats. From initial trends this target seems to be being achieved.

Three-tier security system has been implemented at the counting centres. Central forces have been deployed at the centre, while external security is being handled by the state police. More than 300 policemen are deployed at each centre.

By-elections were held on these six seats on 13 November. These seats are Naihati, Haroa, Sitai, Madarihat, Taldangra and Medinipur. These by-elections were held after seats became vacant due to various reasons. Most of these seats became vacant due to the resignation of MLAs who were elected as MPs.
