Tribute paid to martyr Captain Vikram Batra who defeated the enemies in the Kargil war | News India

Fatehabad, September 9 (HS). On the death anniversary of Param Vir Chakra awardee martyr Captain Vikram Batra, who defeated the enemies with his indomitable courage and bravery in the Kargil war, a tribute ceremony was organized by the Department of History and Political Science at Manohar Memorial Postgraduate College on Monday and tributes were paid to Captain Vikram Batra and the brave martyrs of Kargil. College Principal Dr. Gurcharan Das participated as the chief guest in the program, while the program was conducted by the Head of the History Department, Prof. Surendrapal Sidhu. On this occasion, college staff members and students remembered the brave martyrs and flowers were also offered at Manohar Smriti.

Principal Dr. Gurcharan Das, while remembering the Kargil martyrs, said that today we are safe only because of the sacrifice of the martyrs. The whole world saw the valor of the Indian Army in the Kargil war. Remembering the martyrdom of Captain Vikram Batra, he said that in the Kargil war in 1999, Captain Vikram Batra liberated the important 5140 point just above the Srinagar-Leh road from the Pakistani army. Despite being an extremely inaccessible area, Captain Batra captured this peak at 3:30 am on 20 June 1999.

When Captain Batra said on the radio that 'Yeh Dil Maange More', his name became famous in the whole country. After this, the mission to capture 4875 point started. Then in the face-to-face fight, he killed five enemy soldiers. Even after being seriously injured, he threw grenades towards the enemy. Vikram Batra was martyred in this operation, but he gave victory to the Indian Army in difficult circumstances. On this occasion, Prof. Mamta Swami, Dr. Neeraj Devi, Prof. Virendra Singh, Dr. Vikas Sethi, Prof. Gurpreet Singh, Prof. Narendra Singh, Prof. Nitin Sachdeva, Prof. Mukesh Kumar, Dr. Ramgopal Kajal, Prof. Manpreet, Prof. Sushil and many staff members were present.
