Attempted rape of a trainee doctor in Tamil Nadu: After the Kolkata rape-murder case, now a case of attempted rape of a trainee doctor has come to light in a medical college in Tamil Nadu. The incident took place on Wednesday (August 14) night at Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH). This information came to light on Thursday (August 15).
According to media reports, at around 9 pm on Wednesday night, the trainee doctor (house surgeon) parked near the dean's office and went to get her scooter. A 25-year-old youth was present there. He took off his pants in front of the trainee doctor and tried to molest her.
The trainee doctor pushed her and ran away to the hostel located in the hospital premises. Meanwhile, the accused also ran away from there. After this, the other doctor immediately informed the security guards of the hospital.
The accused was caught from the casualty ward of the hospital at around 1 am. He was later handed over to the police. The youth has been identified as 25-year-old Mayank Galer. Police said that the accused is a resident of Hoshangabad in Madhya Pradesh. He was roaming around the railway station. From there he reached the medical college.
Medical College Dean Dr A Nirmala told news agency ANI that our Resident Medical Officer (RMO) was on the spot to monitor the situation. Police arrived and took the accused into custody. Further investigation is underway.
Police have registered a case against the accused under Section 74 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 4 of the Tamil Nadu Harassment of Women Act.
