In the cinema world, stories that attack social anomalies and frauds going on in the name of faith have always received full support from the audience. In this series, the much awaited trailer of the courtroom and investigative drama film ‘Hunkaar: The Roar’ based on a very sensitive and hair-raising subject has been officially released. As soon as the trailer of the film was released, it has become very much discussed on digital platforms and social media. In this film, young and talented actress Aneet Padda is seen as the lead character Meenu Rawat, who stands tall to overthrow the exploitative system of ‘Bapji’, a very influential and hypocritical spiritual guru who has attained the status of God in the society. At the same time, famous Bollywood actress Fatima Sana Shaikh is seen fighting the system in this battle as a fearless and dutiful police officer.
The story of the film ‘Hunkaar: The Roar’ revolves around a girl who musters the courage to confront the spiritual mafia before which the country’s big personalities and the government machinery bow down. The trailer begins with a powerful and heart-wrenching scene where Meenu Rawat (Aneet Padda) walks into the local police station with a heavy heart but an unwavering spirit. She arrives to lodge an official complaint, not against any common criminal, but against ‘Bapji’ (Raghubir Yadav), revered by millions of devotees, of serious physical abuse and exploitation. In the society, Bapji is considered a saint, a guide and an incarnation of God, so as soon as Meenu makes this allegation, no one, from the policemen present in the police station to the society standing outside, is ready to believe her even for a moment.
In the trailer, the cruel and double face of the society has also been boldly exposed, which in today’s language is called ‘Victim Shaming’. In our society, whenever a weak woman raises her voice against a strong or influential personality, her character is first tarnished. It is shown in the film that instead of providing justice, the police, media and neighbors start pointing fingers at Meenu’s clothes, her behavior and her past. Not only this, the height of mental anguish is seen when even Meenu’s own father starts doubting her intentions. The father believes that his daughter’s behavior is not like that of a normal victim, scared or crying, hence, due to the fear of being defamed in the society, he also seems to oppose this step. This scene shows how lonely the fight for justice becomes in one’s own home.
Amidst this dark and unequal battle, emerging as a torch of justice is the flamboyant police officer ACP Jasleen Singh Soni, powerfully played by Fatima Sana Shaikh. In the trailer, Jasleen is seen as an honest officer who clearly refuses to bow down to any political pressure or spiritual aura. When the entire system is busy suppressing the case and proving Bapji innocent, Jasleen takes it upon herself to get to the bottom of the allegations. During this time, he receives open threats from Bapji’s criminal family, his blind followers and the ruling circles. Threats are given to transfer her and to kill her, but while maintaining the dignity of the khaki uniform, Jasleen remains firm and openly challenges Bapji’s empire.
The court debates and legal maneuvers in the film take the drama to a different level. In the film, Mohammad Zeeshan Ayyub plays the role of Meenu’s lawyer, who stands in the court to defend the truth despite all the social boycotts and threats. On the other hand, well-known actor Ram Kapoor is seen in the role of a very expensive, vicious and high-profile defense lawyer to defend Baapji. In the trailer, a heated legal argument, clash of articles of the Constitution and a war of arguments are seen between the two veteran actors. Additionally, National Award winning actor Arjun Mathur plays the role of a courageous investigative television journalist who goes behind the screen to uncover the dark secrets of Bapji’s ashram, unknown properties and missing persons.
Aneet Padda, who is making her mark in the film industry, had completed the shooting of the complex web show ‘Hunkaar’ even before the widespread appreciation of ‘Sayyara’, and her facial expressions and dialogue delivery in the trailer prove her mature acting ability. This powerful cinematic masterpiece is co-directed by Karan D Kapadia, renowned filmmakers Nitya Mehra and Hiraj Marfatia, while it is also produced under the banner of Karan D Kapadia and Nitya Mehra. This courtroom thriller film, adorned with excellent cinematography and serious background score, is going to be streamed directly on the leading OTT platform Jio Hotstar on 25 September 2026, for which the audience is eagerly waiting.
