Dehradun, June 10 (HS). Chief Secretary Radha Raturi has sought information from the Transport Department about the corrective steps taken as a result of the death audit after road accidents in the state. She has given instructions to implement the faceless challan system. The Chief Secretary has given instructions to monitor the traffic system and challan with drone cameras in cities along with ANPR cameras on the entire state border and all main roads. The Education Department has been asked to make children aware about road safety in schools once a week. Along with this, instructions have been given to upgrade the traffic signals with ANPR and RLVD system.
During the meeting of State Road Safety Fund Management Committee held at the Secretariat on Monday, with a view to minimizing road accidents in the state, Chief Secretary Radha Raturi has given instructions to strictly enforce the rule of wearing helmets for pillion riders on two-wheelers and seat belts for all in four-wheelers.
In the road safety meeting, with a view to making the state's traffic system hi-tech and updated, the Chief Secretary gave financial and in-principle approval for providing drone services in all 13 districts, integrating and updating traffic signals with ANPR and RLVD system, installing hi-tech motor bikes, radar speed sign boards with cameras, digital speed sign boards and variable message display boards, implementing latest technology systems like body worn cameras, alcometer-breath analyzer, portable sound system for traffic police personnel.
Radha Raturi directed the Transport and Police Department to create public awareness through social media for road safety and traffic awareness.
While giving strict instructions to work with the vision of Zero Accident State, the Chief Secretary gave financial and in-principle approval to the Public Works Department for the financial year 2024-25 for installation of crash barriers, road delineators and cat eyes, corrective works on black spots, parapet and cautionary sign boards, road furniture, road marking etc. under protective works.
Chief Secretary Radha Raturi gave instructions for wide publicity of Hit and Run and Good Samaritan. She gave instructions to work promptly on the action plan of determining speed limit in a scientific manner as per the demands of the state.
It was informed in the meeting that last year an amount of Rs 10 lakh has been allocated to 67 Good Samaritans. An amount of Rs 10 lakh is proposed for the Good Samaritan Scheme in the year 2024-25. It is known that to encourage Good Samaritans, the Good Samaritan Scheme of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Government of India has been implemented at the departmental level in Uttarakhand. In this, the Good Samaritan is given a cash reward and a letter of appreciation.
Departmental Good Samaritan Award Scheme has also been started in Uttarakhand state. Under this, if a person does any of the following works, then Uttarakhand Police will provide him cash reward and appreciation letter. Providing first aid to a person in a road accident. Carrying out relief and rescue work of the road accident victim/persons and taking them to hospital on time. Taking the injured person in a road accident to hospital in a private vehicle in case of non-availability of ambulance. Donating blood to the injured person in a road accident if required or arranging for a blood donor of the relevant blood group by promoting blood donation. Helping the injured person in an accident financially, etc. Contributing to the efforts to prevent road accidents.
Director General of Police Abhinav Kumar, Principal Secretary Ramesh Kumar Sudhanshu, Secretary Arvind Singh Hayaki, V Shanmugam etc were present in the meeting.
