Barnala: During the election days, as per the instructions of the Election Commission, the traffic police of Barnala has tightened the noose on two-wheeler drivers. In the last hour, the traffic police not only stopped the students of class 11th and 12th going for tuition in the densely populated area of the city and searched their book bags, but also wasted their time and issued challan for their two-wheelers. Time passed.
Many students reached tuition late on the recommendation of city officials and to get rid of the traffic police. But many students, after getting the challan deducted, kept waiting for their parents to deposit the challan fee. Something similar happened with class 12 student Gurpreet. When his father and uncle reached there half an hour late from a distance, they paid the challan amount on the spot, but due to delay, the student returned home without studying instead of studying through tuition. The shopkeepers and passers-by present there also questioned the traffic police and said that the police do not see any difference in those who commit the incidents of robbery and theft happening every day in the city.
Cutting the challan:
When I talked to the traffic in-charge at 7:30 pm, he said that he is still busy issuing challans. Will give you information late night. Late in the night he told that a total of 22 challans have been issued. Out of which 12 challans have been collected on the spot and released and 10 challans have been sent to the RTO office. They share the information about the amount recovered under the challan throughout the day and the next day. He said that no student is stopped for wearing school uniform.
Strictness due to election days
Strictness is necessary during election days. Sharing this information, District Police Chief IPS Sandeep Kumar Malik said that it is not the job of our police to create problems for students. Rather the police is helpful to the students. If the traffic police has harassed the students then we will get it investigated.
