Track safety works on priority of NFR

Guwahati, July 29 (HS). To play its role in increasing the safety of railway tracks and providing a safer and more comfortable travel experience to railway passengers, Pusa Railway has made steady progress towards track maintenance works.

Chief Public Relations Officer of Northeast Frontier Railway, Sabyasachi Dey informed that recently during the financial year 2024-25, Pusa Railway has achieved success by surpassing many targets related to track safety set by the Railway Board.

During June, 26.38 km of complete track renewal was done. Its cumulative progress from April to June is 69.65 km, which is 59.77% more than the same period of last year. A cumulative progress of 71.75 TKM was made in sleeper renewal from April to June, as against 23.69 TKM (track kilometer) done during the said month. This is 135.63% more than the same period of last year. Through turnout renewal of 23 equivalent sets was done during the said month, giving a cumulative progress of 48.50 equivalent sets from April to June. This is 117.98% more than the same period of last year. A cumulative progress of 49 Thick Web Switches (TWS) was achieved by installing them from April to June, out of which 17 were installed in the said month. This is 2350% more than the same period of last year. In addition, 28.34 TKM of deep screening (plain track) was done in the month of June, taking the cumulative progress from April to June to 145.41 TKM. This is 156% more than the same period last year.

Further, 1132.20 km of track was tested by USFD (Ultra Sonic Flaw Detection) machine in June, making a cumulative progress of 5221.60 km from April to June. USFD technology is used to detect flaws like cracks in rail tracks and remove faulty tracks in time for safety.

It is notable that in order to maintain the railway tracks in good condition to provide safe train journey with better comfort to the rail passengers various track renewal works are regularly carried out by NFR under the zone which includes replacement of defective tracks, turn outs, damaged sleepers and deep screening along with ballasting of tracks.
