In the last few years, a new era of big budget pan-India films has started in Indian cinema. While money is being poured like water on action, VFX and big stars with a huge budget of Rs 300 to 500 crores, a big question is still standing in the film industry. The question is whether the command of such huge and commercial films is felt safe in the hands of women? On this topic, famous actress Huma Qureshi, who is playing the character of ‘Elizabeth’ in superstar Yash’s much-awaited gangster-action film ‘Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-ups’, has exposed the bitter truth of the film industry.
Indian audience has never seen a film like ‘Toxic’ before.
Huma Qureshi recently joined a podcast of ‘The Lallantop’, where while interacting with the audience, she made a big claim about her upcoming film ‘Toxic’. Huma said, “I am sure that the Indian audience has never seen a film like ‘Toxic’ on screen before. So wait a bit. All the female characters and lead actresses in the film have done an amazing job. This film will completely shake everyone as soon as it hits the theatres.”
In commercial cinema, male actors do not like to take instructions from female directors.
Huma Qureshi, while praising the film’s National Award winning director Geetu Mohandas, openly expressed her opinion on the male-dominated attitude of the film industry. She said, “Geethu Mohandas is essentially an art-house Malayalam filmmaker whose films have received immense appreciation internationally. When he narrated the script of this film to me, I was extremely excited to work with a female filmmaker on such a big scale.”
Huma further said, “It is very challenging for a woman to work in this film industry, especially in the era of big commercial films. The truth is that even today most of the mainstream male actors do not like to take instructions or orders from a female director on the set. But the way Geetu Mohandas has handled such a big action film and the coordination he has created with superstar Yash is really praiseworthy. The cinema that Geetu has created. Yes, he is far ahead of everyone’s expectations.”
Superstar Yash calls Huma a ‘symbol of quiet courage’
Meanwhile, the film’s lead actor and Kannada superstar Yash has praised his co-star Huma Qureshi’s acting and her new production venture. Yash wrote a very emotional note on his Instagram for Huma’s latest release ‘Baby Do Die Do’ (in which Huma has played the lead role and also produced it).
Yash wrote, “There is always a path to success, but Huma Qureshi has always chosen the difficult path. Producing a film is not at all a glamorous job. It involves late nights juggling budgets, fighting alone for stories that no one else believes in, and taking on all the responsibility when things go wrong. Huma has made this a reality as a wonderful actor and producer. Her quiet courage is admirable and I’m extremely proud of him.”
‘Toxic’ will be released in theaters on August 26.
‘Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups’ is a high-octane gangster drama film, made on a grand scale under the banner of KVN Productions and Monster Mind Creations. Apart from Yash and Huma Qureshi, veteran actors like Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Tara Sutaria and Rukmini Vasant will be seen in lead roles in the film. The film is all set to release simultaneously in multiple languages in theaters across the world on 26 August 2026.
