Pakistan Pollution: Along with India, the air of Pakistan has also become poisonous. In view of this, complete lockdown has been announced in Lahore and Multan. This will be applicable from Friday to Sunday. This decision has been taken due to the extreme increase in air pollution levels in these two cities. For the last few weeks, dense fog has been engulfing many cities of Pakistan’s Punjab province. Lahore and Multan are the most affected. The air quality index (AQI) in Multan has already crossed 2,000, setting a new record for air pollution.
“We are declaring a health emergency in Lahore and Multan,” Maryam Aurangzeb, minister of Pakistan’s Punjab province, said at a press conference on Friday. He told that complete lockdown will be in force in both these cities from Friday to Sunday.
Schools and colleges were closed
Construction work in Lahore and Multan has been suspended for the next 10 days. Vehicles loaded with construction material will be prevented from entering the cities. Apart from this, schools are also closed. Colleges and universities will conduct online classes. Employees in government and private offices have been asked to work from home. The restaurant will be open only till 4 pm and take-away service will be offered till 8 pm. Maryam Aurangzeb also said, ‘No restrictions are being imposed on weddings in this smog season.’
Maryam Aurangzeb also said, ‘There is only 3 percent greenery in Lahore, whereas there should be 36 percent greenery. In view of this, the government has planned to start a tree plantation campaign in the entire city. Additionally, the Agriculture Department has provided 1,000 super seeders to farmers to destroy stubble instead of burning it. 800 brick kilns have been closed. Steps are also being taken to increase the forests of Lahore.
