Mumbai: A huge 120 feet hoarding broke and fell on a petrol pump in Chhedanagar area of ​​Ghatkopar on Monday evening. 16 people died in this accident. An official of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) said that the search and rescue operation was completed after 66 hours.

Giving more details about the case, the official said that Mumbai Municipal Corporation Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani announced the case after visiting the spot and inspecting it.

Speaking to the media from the incident site, Gagrani said that 16 people died and 75 were injured in the incident. With this the search and rescue operation being conducted here has been completed. He said no one else was trapped in the debris. After making sure this operation is completed.

Now the work of removing debris from this place will continue. Meanwhile, agencies like Municipal Corporation, Police, NDRF, Mumbai Fire Brigade, Mahanagar Gas, BPCL joined the rescue operation. Gagrani further said that the action to remove illegal hoardings across the city has been taken on war footing.

Elaborating further, Gagrani said that all hoardings outside the standard norms of the municipality will be removed, irrespective of who owns the premises. These norms will be strictly followed in future also.

Apart from this, not only the size of the hoarding but also the rules related to foundation, structural stability and air circulation will have to be followed. Structural stability is mandatory for municipally approved hoardings. At the same time, Railways has also been instructed to remove illegal hoardings following the rules and regulations.

The illegal hoardings demolished in Ghatkopar were installed at the GRP site. Gagrani further clarified that even though the Railways does not require permission from the municipality for hoardings, the railway authorities will have to submit a structural stability report of the hoardings to the municipality.
