Amaravati: It has been raining heavily in Andhra Pradesh for the last two days. Due to which 13227 people from 294 villages in 5 districts have been shifted to safer places. 9 people have died in rain-related incidents in the state.
On the other hand, 9 people have died due to heavy rains in Telangana. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has called an emergency meeting to review the situation after heavy rains in many areas including Hyderabad. The Chief Minister has asked various government departments to remain on alert for the next 24 hours.
After heavy rains, holiday has been declared in primary and secondary schools of Hyderabad district tomorrow. Heavy rains are expected in some areas tomorrow as well.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu reviewed the situation with senior officials. It has been suggested to use drones to carry out relief and rescue operations.
An official of the Indian Meteorological Department said that the depression formed on the coast of northern Andhra Pradesh and southern Odisha moved northwest on Sunday morning. It crossed the coast of the southern state near Kalingapatnam. Due to this, there has been heavy rain in the state for the last two days.
Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha said that people have been evacuated from rain-affected areas. 100 relief and rehabilitation centers have been set up for these people in NTR, Krishna, Bapatla, Guntur and Palnadu districts.
61 medical camps have also been set up. The Home Minister has officially said that a total of 9 people have died in Andhra Pradesh due to heavy rains. NDRF and SDRF teams have rescued 600 people from flooded areas.
According to preliminary estimates, 62,644 hectares of grain crops and 7218 hectares of orchards have been submerged due to the rains. Toll free numbers and control units have been set up in all districts.
