Mumbai: Heavy rains have been lashing Thane and Palghar districts for the past one week today, throwing normal life out of gear. Rivers in the district are in spate and the rains have also affected traffic on Mumbai-Ahmedabad, Mumbai-Nashik and Mumbai-Pune highways and expressways. Hundreds of people have been evacuated to safer places due to flood-like situation in low-lying areas.
Hundreds of people have been evacuated from Badalpur barrage, Jambul dam, Mohan dam near Ambarnath and low-lying areas where the Ulhas river has crossed the dangerous level in Kalyan. High-alert has been declared in villages around the Tansa dam surface.
At Sahaba Old Age Home in Ambarnath, 18 elderly people were immediately shifted to the upper floor after the water level receded. In Kalyan, 156 people living on the river bank have been shifted to a safe place.
Traffic was blocked on Kalyan-Murbad Road and Murbad-Shahpur Road due to waterlogging on several bridges.
NDRF teams have been deployed in Thane and Palghar. NDRF personnel were found carrying out rescue operations with rubber boats.
Many bus routes were closed in the district
– Maharashtra ST has stopped operations of ST buses on around a dozen routes due to heavy rains and flood situation in Thane-Palghar district.
– Several bridges have been submerged in Kishore, Pali, Badlapur, Eranjad, Chikla, Shivdholi and Mhasa.
– The government has ordered all agencies to remain on alert for the next twenty-four hours.
– Ulhas River, Amba River of Raigad, Kundalika River and Patalganga River are crossing the dangerous level, creating a worrying situation.
There was tension on the bridge in Mahad of Raigad
Due to heavy rains in Raigad, a bridge in the MIDC area of Mahad got strained. Due to this, connectivity between some villages was cut off.
