Top Iranian military officer killed in Israeli airstrike on Iranian consulate in Syria

Israeli air strikes in Syria: After the Israeli air attack on the Syrian capital Damascus on Monday, fire has once again flared up in the Middle East.

An Israeli airstrike destroyed Iran's consulate and killed Mohammad Reza Zahedi, a top military commander in Iran's Revolutionary Guard. In total, seven Revolutionary Guard officers were killed.

American news channel quoted American intelligence agencies as saying that Raza Zahedi, who was killed in the attack, had played an important role in strengthening the terrorist organization Hezbollah in Lebanon. He was also supplying weapons to Hezbollah. The US Treasury Department imposed sanctions on Reza Zahedi in 2010.

Raza Zahedi was one of the top officers of the Revolutionary Guard and was leading the Quds Force. This force helps fundamentalist organizations. America has also put Quds Force in the list of foreign terrorist organizations.

Raza Zahedi was also working as a coordinator between Syria's Assad government and Lebanon's Hezbollah organization. There are very old and close relations between Syria's Assad government and Iran. Iran supported the Assad government after the rebellion started in Syria. Assad, Iran send Hezbollah members to Syria. Also sent to fight.

Raza Zahedi also took part in the war against Iraq in 1980.
