Today’s Panchang 3rd October: Jitiya Vrat, Mahalaxmi Vrat conclusion and rare great coincidence of Ashtami Shraddha, know the auspicious time and Rahukaal.

Ashtami Tithi of Krishna Paksha of Ashwin month is considered extremely fruitful from religious and spiritual point of view. According to the calendar calculations, three major religious rituals are being performed simultaneously on October 3. Today is the Nirjala ‘Jeevitputrika’ (Jitiya) fast observed for the long life and health of the children. Along with this, the ‘Mahalakshmi Vrat’ which has been going on for the last 16 days is being inaugurated and concluded as per the rituals. Under Pitru Paksha today, before Matri Navami, ‘Ashtami Shraddha’ will be offered and Pind Daan will also be performed. Apart from this, today the festival of Kalashtami and monthly Krishna Janmashtami is also being celebrated with devotion. In this way, a rare combination of worship of God, ancestral and maternal power is being created on the same day.

Today’s day started with Saptami Tithi of Ashwin Krishna Paksha, which is ending at 07:59 am. After this, Ashtami Tithi will start, which will last till 05:51 am the next day on 4th October.

Jitiya Vrat is observed with full devotion by mothers in North India, especially Bihar, Jharkhand and Eastern Uttar Pradesh, to wish for the well-being and longevity of their children. This fast is extremely difficult and is observed without water for more than 24 hours. On this day, mothers make an idol of Lord Jimutavahana from Kusha and worship it. Besides, figures of eagle and lion are made from clay and cow dung, vermilion is applied and traditional stories are heard. This fast will be broken tomorrow i.e. on 4th October in the morning after sunrise by consuming satvik food and water.

The 16-day Mahalakshmi fast, which starts from Bhadrapada Shukla Ashtami and continues till Ashwin Krishna Ashtami, is being formally concluded today. On this day, devotees worship the Raksha Sutra (string) with 16 knots and immerse it or wear it. It is believed that by reciting Shri Sukta and Kanakdhara Stotra on this day, Goddess Lakshmi resides in the house and poverty is destroyed. Donating fruits, sweets, make-up material and clothes to 16 married women during Udyapan is considered especially virtuous.

On the Ashtami Tithi falling in Pitru Paksha, Shraddha, Tarpan and Pind Daan are performed for those ancestors who died on the Ashtami Tithi of any month. According to religious texts, Shraddha rituals should always be performed in the afternoon time only.
