The south-west monsoon has become fully active in the entire country. Due to continuous rains in many states, rivers are in spate and a serious flood-like situation is prevailing. On July 29, the Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a major alert of torrential rain in the areas of North-West and Central India for the next 8 hours and the coming 4 to 5 days. During this period, there is a serious possibility of winds blowing at a storm speed of 70 to 75 kilometers per hour and lightning at various places.
Movement of cyclonic system ‘Deep Depression’: 24 hours heavy
According to meteorologists, the ‘deep depression’ arising from the Bay of Bengal is moving at a speed of 12 kilometers per hour over Odisha and West Bengal. In the next 24 hours, this storm-cyclonic system will pass through the areas of Northern Odisha, Southern Jharkhand and Northern Chhattisgarh. Due to its impact, there is a danger of heavy to very heavy rains along with thunderstorms in these states and the entire surrounding area, due to which normal life can be badly affected.
Flood havoc in Assam: 75 killed, compensation amount increased
Due to continuous torrential rains in Assam, the situation has become extremely dire. So far, 75 people have lost their lives due to floods and about 7 lakh people have become homeless. Golaghat, Jorhat, Nagaon and Sivasagar districts of the state have been most affected. Considering the seriousness of the situation, the Assam government has increased the amount of assistance given to the families of the deceased from Rs 4 lakh to Rs 9 lakh. Apart from this, an ex-gratia amount of Rs 4 lakh has been announced to the families of the missing people and cash assistance of Rs 15,000 for everyday items to more than 1 lakh victim families.
Danger of flash flood and cloudburst in 27 districts of Odisha
Due to this powerful weather system formed in the Bay of Bengal, the situation in Odisha remains critical. A warning has been issued for flash floods in 27 districts of the state and cloud burst at some places. The weather department has declared ‘red alert’ for Sundergarh, Kendujhar and Mayurbhanj districts, while 12 other districts have been put on ‘yellow alert’.
Warning of stormy rain in Delhi, UP, Bihar and Rajasthan
Heavy rain with strong winds blowing at a speed of 65 to 70 km/hour is expected in the national capital Delhi and Haryana.
Warning of heavy rain and thunder has been issued in most of the districts of Uttar Pradesh like Noida, Meerut, Agra, Kanpur, Varanasi, Prayagraj, Ayodhya, Bareilly, Mirzapur and Gorakhpur.
Heavy rains along with thunderstorms will continue in Patna, Gaya, Champaran, Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga, Bhagalpur, Purnia and Katihar districts of Bihar.
In Rajasthan, there is a possibility of heavy rain in eastern areas including Jaipur, Alwar, Bharatpur, Kota, Udaipur, Tonk and Ajmer from July 29 to August 3.
Weather patterns changed in MP, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Bengal also
There is an alert of torrential rain in Bhopal, Vidisha, Chhindwara, Dewas and Satna of Madhya Pradesh and large parts of Chhattisgarh.
‘Yellow alert’ has been issued for winds blowing at a speed of 50 to 60 km/hour and heavy rain in Ranchi, Hazaribagh, Bokaro, East Singhbhum of Jharkhand and Kolkata, Darjeeling and Howrah of West Bengal. There will be rain and thundershowers in the coastal areas of Maharashtra and Gujarat also.
Landslide alert in hilly states, travelers advised to take caution
Due to continuous rains in the mountainous areas of North India, there is a serious danger of landslides and blockage of main roads.
There is a warning of heavy rain with winds of 60 km/hour in Nainital, Haridwar, Rishikesh, Rudraprayag, Chamoli and Pithoragarh of Uttarakhand.
Moderate to heavy rain has been predicted in Shimla, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi of Himachal Pradesh and Jammu, Kathua, Anantnag of Jammu and Kashmir, due to which the administration has instructed the local people and tourists to be extremely cautious.
