Ranchi, September 20 (HS). In his address at the centenary celebrations organized on Friday to mark the completion of 100 glorious years of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-National Agricultural Higher Processing Institute Namkum, Ranchi, Chief Minister Hemant Soren said that President Draupadi Murmu's arrival in Ranchi is a matter of pride for all of us. She was the Governor of Jharkhand for 6 years. During this time, this state always got her guidance. Even today, while being in the post of President, she has a deep attachment to Jharkhand.

The Chief Minister said that in today's materialistic era, there is a need to take strong steps to keep farmers connected to agriculture, increase their income, and promote and encourage animal husbandry along with alternative farming. Let us pledge to make farmers self-reliant.

The Chief Minister said that the National Agricultural Higher Education Institute, Namkum Ranchi is completing 100 years. In these years, the circumstances have become such that farmers have become agricultural labourers on a large scale. Today there is a need to save farmers from becoming agricultural labourers. For this, the Central and State Governments need to think seriously, so that work can be done with better policy making in the interest of farmers.

We all are aware of the plight of hardworking farmers

The Chief Minister said that sensitivity towards farmers has always been of utmost importance to us. Although many big things are said about farmers. Even on paper, good figures are shown. But, the struggle that hardworking farmers face in the fields can be seen by going to rural areas. There is a need to seriously think about how to change the condition of farmers.

Emphasis on connecting farmers with lac cultivation

The Chief Minister said that Jharkhand produces 50 to 55 percent of the country's lac. But earlier we used to produce 70 percent of the lac. Today we can achieve this target. For this, incentives and facilities should be made available to farmers to connect them with lac cultivation. In this regard, our government has given lac the status of agriculture, so that lac production, research, processing, fair price and market can be made available.

Why lakhpati, didis can become crorepati

The Chief Minister said that today there is talk of making the sisters “lakhpati didis”. But I say why “lakhpati didis”? Why can't they become “crorepati didis”. The sisters have the full capacity and capability to become “crorepati didis”. Only better policy making is needed for this.

Farmers have to be saved from middlemen

The Chief Minister said that there should be no place for middlemen in the journey of farmers from farming to the market. But, unfortunately, middlemen are such a powerful group in the country that they pocket a large part of the hard-earned money of the farmers. To empower the farmers, they will have to be freed from middlemen at all costs.

Initiatives are being taken to connect farmers with alternative farming

The Chief Minister said that due to the change in the environment, a lot of changes are being seen in the weather. Sometimes there is less rain, sometimes more and sometimes drought situation arises. The farmers are the most affected by this. It has a direct impact on their traditional farming. In such a situation, the state government is constantly encouraging farmers for alternative farming. Our government has been continuously working in this direction, so that we can take the farmers forward.

On this occasion, Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar, Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan, Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth and Jharkhand's Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Cooperation Minister Deepika Pandey Singh and others were present.
