Gorakhpur, 16 December (Hindustan Reporter). A lecture on the topic “Women and Mental Health” was organized today under the joint aegis of the Department of Psychology, Deen Dayal Upadhyay Gorakhpur University, Gorakhpur and Mission Shakti Phase 5. In the program, Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Poonam Tandon, keynote speaker Prof. Kailash Nath Tripathi, former Head of the Department, Barkatullah University, Prof. Vinita Pathak, Nodal Officer, Mission Shakti Phase 5, Prof. Rajwant Rao, Dean, Faculty of Arts and Prof. Anubhuti Dubey, Dean, Student Welfare was present.
At the beginning of the program Prof. Dhananjay Kumar, Head of the Department, Department of Psychology welcomed all the guests and introduced the topic. Prof. Dhananjay said that mental health is considered a stigma in the society and is being used as a tool to keep women subordinate.

Tripathi replied that women are actually empowered, the need is to make them aware. In his speech, he described mental health as an approximate concept and said that mental health can be understood through the glass ceiling effect in the context of women, Where social conditions cause mental problems in women. Prof. Pointing out the various causes of mental illnesses in women, Tripathi talked about adopting a positive approach to improve the mental health of women.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Praising various programs of Mission Shakti, Poonam Tandon in her presidential address described gender inequality as the root cause of women’s exploitation. Prof. Poonam Tandon said that to empower women, gender inequality has to be reduced. The university plays an exemplary role for the society by spreading gender equality, where more than 80 percent of gold medals are won by girl students. At the end of her address, The Vice Chancellor emphasized that being affected by any mental problem or not is determined by the women themselves.
