Three tracks will be built for cycling on the roads of Shimla | News India

Shimla, September 26 (HS). The district administration is busy in implementing the plan to promote cycling in the city. Under this, the Municipal Corporation will develop three cycle tracks in the city for the safe journey of cyclists. All three tracks will be built on roads prohibited for big vehicles. In this regard, Shimla Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap held discussions with the representatives of the Cycling Association of Himachal Pradesh on Thursday.

On this occasion, the Deputy Commissioner informed that there is a proposal to make cycling lanes on various roads of the capital Shimla, for which the Municipal Corporation has also done a detailed survey. In the first phase, it is proposed to make these cycling lanes from CTO Chowk to Summer Hill, from Rites to Navbahar and from Shimla Club to Chota Shimla. The Deputy Commissioner said that further action will be taken on the basis of the survey done by the Municipal Corporation in this regard so that the message of cycling can reach the people in Shimla city. Deputy Commissioner Kashyap said that the forests around Shimla city can be explored for cycling trails so that cycling can be linked with adventure activities and tourism. He said that the forests of Glen, Potterhill, Tutikandi and Jakhu in Shimla city can be seen from this point of view, where there used to be footpaths in old times. He gave necessary instructions to the Forest Department to explore the old paths in this regard.

The Deputy Commissioner said that the Youth Services and Sports Department has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Sports Authority of India regarding the construction of a hostel and cycling trails at Potter Hill. He said that a meeting will soon be held with the Director Youth Services and Sports Department in this regard. Kashyap said that cycling can also be promoted in various schools of Shimla city. He said that cycling can be promoted in schools and colleges where cycling is safe from the security point of view, so that students can be motivated for cycling. He said that cycling is a subject directly related to our health, hence cycling should be promoted. Along with this, it is also very important from the point of view of reducing the increasing traffic, environment and tourism.
