Jaipur, 01 August (HS). Three people died due to drowning in the basement built on the roadside due to rain water filling and the roof collapsing due to heavy rain in Vishwakarma police station area of Jaipur city in Rajasthan on Wednesday-Thursday midnight. Police reached the spot on the information of local people and the civil defense team installed pumps to remove water from the basement but by then all three died due to drowning in the rain water. Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma has expressed grief over the death of three persons in Jaipur and released financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh each to their dependents.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, Jaipur (West), Amit Kumar told media persons on Thursday that due to heavy rains on Wednesday-Thursday midnight, Poorvi (8), Pooja (19) and Kamal (23) died in the basement built on the roadside in Braj Nagar, Road No. 7 of Vishwakarma police station area. All three were residents of Ara in Bihar. The team of Civil Defense and State Disaster Rescue Force (SDRF), which reached the spot, took out the bodies of all three at 12:30 pm on Thursday after a rescue operation that lasted for six hours. At the same time, after a lot of effort, one person has been taken out safely.
Assistant Police Commissioner Ashok Chauhan said that 25 years ago, Ashok Saini and Baijnath Saini, residents of Ara, Bihar, bought plot number 94-95 in Braj Nagar. They built a house here. Baijnath's house was in the front and Ashok's house was behind. Due to rain at night, the house behind Ashok's house got filled with water. This broke the wall and suddenly the water from the road entered their house from the back and front. Due to the high speed of water filling in the basement, the roof planks also broke in half and hung. During this time, Ashok's daughter Pooja Saini (19) and granddaughter Poorvi (6), daughter of Hatwaru Saini, were sleeping in the basement. Due to water filling in the basement, both of them did not get a chance to come out and they died. After Ashok's house, water entered Baijnath's house, where Baijnath's son Kamal Shah (23) was. He also died due to water filling in the basement. Ashok and Baijnath work in a factory in Jaipur.
SDRF Commandant Rajendra Singh Sisodia informed that on Thursday morning, on receiving information from District Collectorate Control Room Jaipur that the basement of a house in Road No. 17 Braj Nagar under Police Station VKI was filled with water and some people were buried under the debris due to the collapse of the basement roof, SDRF H Company was dispatched to the site for disaster relief and rescue. The rescue team in-charge reached the site with a team of ten soldiers and disaster relief equipment. The team commander took stock of the situation. The strips of the roof are hanging half broken, the walls are dilapidated which could fall anytime. On this, the rescue team started the rescue operation. First of all, the rescue team, along with the team of Municipal Corporation, local administration and Civil Defense, pumped out the water filled in the basement with the help of pump sets. After that, the joint teams descended into the basement with the help of rescue rope and took out the three bodies buried in the debris by 12:30 pm and handed them over to the local administration.
Chief Minister Sharma said that in this hour of grief, the state government stands with the families of the deceased and is committed to provide them all possible help. He has approved to give Rs. 4 lakh each to the family of each deceased from the Disaster Relief Fund and Rs. 1 lakh each from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund. Sharma directed the administrative officials to ensure all foolproof arrangements to prevent rain-related accidents in many districts of the state and to do intensive monitoring on a regular basis.
