Mumbai: Public anger erupted after two nursery students aged four and six years were sexually abused in the toilet by a sweeper at a private school in Badlapur in Thane district. This morning, angry crowds reached Badlapur station and occupied the tracks for almost a day due to the Dai Rail Roko agitation, bringing local train services to a halt. Trains on the Mumbai-Pune route were also disrupted. Police tried to remove the people from the railway track by repeatedly lathi-charging but the police also got confused as the people countered them by pelting stones. To avoid any political fallout ahead of the assembly elections, no strict action was taken against the rail-roko mob.
The agitators took the entire Badlapur station hostage from around 10 AM today and adopted an aggressive stance that they would sit on the tracks and would not leave the station until the accused are hanged, due to which the railway administration, railway police and police officers were perturbed.
The unprecedented rail roko agitation that began at 10 am lasted for more than seven hours. Local trains of Central Railway including suburban trains were affected due to this agitation and people were sitting in mail express trains for hours. Local trains were stopped in both directions between Ambarnath and Karjat and passengers were confused. Due to these rail rokos, many long distance trains were forced to take other routes. Railway administration and senior police officials reached the spot to intervene but the agitators were not ready to believe anything they said. They took a stand that the agitation will not be withdrawn until the Chief Minister himself comes.
On receiving information about the incident, Railway Police Commissioner Ravindra Shisve and Ulhasnagar DCP Sudhakar Pathare reached the spot and tried hard to convince the protesters, but they did not relent and kept demanding the hanging of the accused with the slogan of 'hang them'.
Railway sources said that about 30 locos were cancelled by noon. This figure was likely to increase by evening. Apart from this, 12 trains of Pune route were diverted to Panvel route. Solapur-Mumbai Vande Bharat was also stopped. Apart from the local municipality, the railways requisitioned buses for the passengers stranded near the state ST. As against the demand of more than 100 buses, barely 60 buses could run between Kalyan and Karjat.
To prevent damage to railway property, RPF raids were conducted on the route between Kalyan and Karjat. Arrangements for GRP jawans were also made.
What is the whole incident?
Two innocent girls aged four and six were sexually abused by the attendant
Despite his criminal past, he was hired and tasked with taking children to the toilet
The accused Akshay Shinde (age 23) was hired at a reputed school in Badlapur on August 1. Despite having a criminal history, the accused was given the responsibility of taking young girls to the washroom. On August 12-13, the accused sexually abused two nursery girls aged four and six. On August 14, a four-year-old child told his grandfather that he was having pain in his private parts. He also informed his mother about this.
The parents of the frightened child contacted the parents of the other victim of abuse to get more information. During this, they said that their daughter was also refusing to go to school. In such a situation, there was a suspicion that this child has also been exploited. After this, the parents contacted a private doctor and after medical examination it became clear that both the children had been raped.
The role of Badlapur police is suspicious
When the parents went to the police to lodge a complaint, the police made them sit for hours
CCTV cameras in school are also shut down: Complaint taken after involvement of child welfare officers
After this incident, when the child's parents went to the Badalpur police station late on Friday night to lodge a complaint, they were made to wait for hours. This incident sparked anger against the police administration. During this time, police station in-charge Shubhada Shitole made the parents sit for hours instead of registering their complaint. She told the parents that a preliminary investigation of the incident was underway. However, police investigation revealed that the school's CCTV was switched off.
Ramian district women and child welfare officials intervened and the police registered a case under the POCSO Act on Saturday morning and conducted a medical examination of the girls.
