Nainital, 9 November (HS). In an important decision, the Uttarakhand High Court has given relief to the State Public Service Commission by giving relaxation in the age limit for the posts of spokesperson. The court has directed the Commission to also allow those candidates to apply, whose age as on July 1, 2021 was in accordance with the qualifications prescribed for these posts.

The last date of application for 613 posts of Group C Spokesperson organized by Uttarakhand Public Service Commission was November 7, 2024. These vacancies were for the year 2021-22, but the advertisement was published in 2024. Due to this delay, many candidates, who were eligible for the exam in 2021, became ineligible due to the maximum age limit prescribed in 2024.

Some candidates had approached the High Court against this injustice. A single bench of Justice Rakesh Thapliyal, while hearing the case, ordered the Commission to calculate the age of all ineligible candidates from July 1, 2021. The court also directed the commission to reopen the online application portal for a week.

Surendra Singh and others had argued in their petition that the maximum age should be calculated from the year in which the government issued notification to the Commission to fill the vacant posts and not from the year of publication of the advertisement. He said that injustice should not be done to the students due to the negligence of the Commission and the Government.

This decision has brought relief to thousands of candidates who had lost their hopes due to age limit.
