Mumbai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said atrocities against women and crimes against women are heinous sins that can never be forgiven and the culprits cannot be spared.
In the context of the heartbreaking incident of rape and murder of a female trainee doctor in a hospital in Kolkata and sexual abuse of two innocent girls in Badlapur, the Prime Minister should give a strong message from top to bottom in a public meeting. In Jalgaon, he said that a person who exploits a woman or commits a crime against her instead of respecting her does not deserve forgiveness. The safety of mother, sister, daughter should be given priority. While giving a speech from the Red Fort, I have repeatedly reiterated the need for women's safety and respect.
Addressing the Lakhpati Didi Sammelan in Jalgaon, Modi said, “I will tell all political parties and state governments that crime against women is an unpardonable sin. Those who try to shelter or protect these culprits are equally guilty, whether they are hospitals, police stations, schools or the government.”
Governments will keep coming and going but it is our responsibility to protect the safety and dignity of women. The governments that came to power after independence did not do as much work for women as our government has done in the last ten years.
In this program, the Prime Minister allocated an amount of Rs 2500 crore to 4.8 lakh sisters of 4.3 lakh self-help groups. He said that if India has to become the third largest economy of the world, then women have the most important contribution in this.
