This time ‘flood’, ‘relief’ will rain! You may not have seen such preparations to deal with the monsoon in Chennai before

Post

Every year the monsoon brings relief from the heat, but it also brings a fear to the people of Chennai – fear of flood and waterlogging. The terrible memories of the last few years are still fresh in the hearts of the people of the city. But it seems, this time the Chennai administration is not in the mood to take any time. Even before the monsoon knocking, preparations have been started on a war footing in the city.

In every corner of the city, the administration teams are working promptly so that this time the monsoon rained as a relief, but a relief.

The biggest focus – on cleaning drains

The biggest reason for waterlogging in Chennai is the closure of Storm Water Drains. Keeping this in mind, the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has launched a major campaign to clean these drains throughout the city.

Employees at various places can be seen removing silt and garbage from drains with machines. The objective is clear – to give a clean and straightforward way to remove rain water, so that it does not accumulate on the streets. The administration is making sure that the city’s drainage system is fully prepared to face heavy monsoon rains.

Not only the drain, preparation is on every front

Preparations for the administration are not limited to cleaning the drains. Many more precautionary steps are also being taken:

  • Sorting of trees: The trees or branches that can fall in strong winds and rain are already being cut off so that there is no damage to the electrical wires and the traffic is not interrupted.
  • Prevention of diseases: Along with the monsoon, the risk of diseases like dengue, malaria also increases. To deal with this, the health department teams are spraying and fogging in sensitive areas.
  • Relief Camps and Emergency Teams: Relief camps have been kept ready to deal with any emergency. Also, disaster management teams have also been kept on alert, so that they can immediately reach for help if needed.

This time the administration’s goal is ‘zero casualty’ and ‘minimum inconvenience’. Seeing these preparations, there is a hope among the people of Chennai that perhaps they do not have to see the scene of boat on the streets this year and they can welcome the monsoon openly.
