What is Gangamma Yatra?

Gangamma Yatra is a folk festival celebrated in Karnataka and parts of Andhra Pradesh. This puja continues for seven days in which non-vegetarian food is also offered to the goddess. In between these seven days, a tableau is also taken out for two days. During this time, men dress up like women and participate in this journey. So it is also possible that Allu's look for 'Pushpa 2' may also be inspired by this Gangamma Yatra. It is also possible that 'Jatra' puja was also shown in the film.

How did Gangamma Yatra start?

There are various beliefs regarding the reasons behind the worship of this festival. Gangamma Yatra is celebrated in the areas of Chittoor and Tirupati. But the reasons for celebrating it at both these places are different. An epidemic broke out in Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh many years ago, in which a large number of people died. Also no one had any information. In such a situation, the solution was to purify the entire village with turmeric and neem water. For which Jatra was started in Chittoor and since then this tradition has been going on.

Recognition of Gangamma Yatra in Tirupati

Whereas the belief behind this festival celebrated in Tirupati is completely different. It is said that this place was once ruled by a person named Pelagondlu. Who was a very tyrannical, evil, abusive and abusive person towards women. People were very upset with his atrocities. During this time, a girl named Gangamma was born in a village named Avilal. When she grew up a little, Pelagondlu tried to cast an evil eye on her too. So the goddess attacked him in defense. But Pelagondlu escaped and hid in the forest.

So people made pilgrimage to this place to get him out of the forest. During this journey, people wore strange costumes and cursed Gangamma Devi. Ultimately on the seventh day of this journey Pelagondlu came out of the forest and was killed by Gangamma Devi. Since then the tradition of Gangamma Yatra is going on in Tirupati.
