There is an uproar in the political circles over the brutal murder of a renowned musician from the North-East in the country’s capital New Delhi. A heated exchange of words has started between the opposition and the ruling party in the case of the murder of Manipur-based musician Chongtham Vikram Singh. After Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi raised questions on the government and the Home Ministry over this incident, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju has taken a very aggressive stance. Kiren Rijiju has seriously accused Rahul Gandhi of politicizing this sensitive and tragic matter. He bluntly said that it is extremely inappropriate to do politics unnecessarily in such cases and at such a time, everyone should stand together with the victim’s family and not make political gains on this.
While talking to journalists in Delhi on Tuesday, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju expressed strong objection to Rahul Gandhi’s statements in which he directly accused the Central Government and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for this murder. Rijiju clearly said that Rahul Gandhi has an old habit of dragging BJP in every matter and every incident, which is not right at all. He said that whenever any unfortunate incident involving citizens of the North-East comes to light in the national capital or in any part of the country, Delhi Police and security agencies immediately come into action and take strict legal action without any delay. Rijiju stressed that instead of doing politics over this tragic incident, it should be done with full sensitivity that the culprits are given strictest punishment as per law as soon as possible.
While presenting his views in front of the media, the Union Minister said in a very strict tone that this is absolutely not the time to do any kind of politics. He said, “I always keep asking the question why Rahul Gandhi brings BJP into the picture every time in such matters? When a criminal incident like this happens, the focus of both administration and society should be on immediate and only prompt action. This is not a political platform but a case of a serious crime.” Kiren Rijiju also informed that ‘North-East Special Police Cell’ has been formed under Delhi Police especially for the security and assistance of the people of North-East, which remains active all the time and takes immediate action without wasting a single moment as soon as any untoward situation or incident is reported. He assured that now the situation is not like before and the government has developed a strong and rapid response system for the safety of the citizens of the North-East.
It is noteworthy that this sharp retort of Kiren Rijiju has come after the statement of Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, in which he expressed deep grief over the death of Manipuri musician Chongtham Vikram Singh and strongly targeted the Central Government. Questioning the functioning of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Delhi Police, Rahul Gandhi had said that anarchy against the people of North-East is continuously increasing in the country’s capital and what is the government doing to stop it? Rahul Gandhi had strongly condemned this entire incident through social media and press statements. He had said that Manipur’s famous musician Chongtham Vikram Singh had come down to request him to reduce the loud noise outside his house, but instead he was beaten to death.
Expressing his condolences, Rahul Gandhi had slammed the government and said that a father is murdered outside his own house and in the capital of his own country, Delhi, which is extremely shameful and a matter of concern. He said that after such continuous incidents, today every North-Eastern family living in Delhi is feeling unsafe and the same question is coming in their mind again and again that are we really safe in the capital of this country? Rahul Gandhi had demanded that Home Minister Amit Shah’s ministry and Delhi Police should immediately take strict steps to stop this increasing anarchy and violence. He had strongly demanded that this entire matter should be investigated impartially and as soon as possible and all the culprits should be punished strictly under the law.
According to official information received from Delhi Police, the entire tragic incident came to light on September 7, when a PCR call was received regarding the alleged beating and murder of C. Vikram Singh in Sunlight Colony Police Station area of Delhi. Initial police investigation has revealed shockingly that musician Vikram Singh had objected to the huge noise and disturbance being created by the employees and delivery boys of a dhaba right in front of his house in Kilokari village. When he came down from his house to register his legitimate objection, the anti-social elements present there and the accused had a heated argument with him and suddenly attacked him indiscriminately with fists and punches. Vikram Singh was seriously injured in this sudden fatal attack.
Immediately after the incident, Vikram Singh’s son Yaifaba, without wasting time, got him admitted to the nearby ‘Holy Family Hospital’ for treatment in critical condition, but despite all the efforts of the doctors, his life could not be saved and due to his injuries, he died in the hospital itself. After this sensational murder came to light, Delhi Police immediately took action and registered an FIR under serious sections of murder. Police officials have also informed the media that all the accused involved in this heinous murder, including some minors, have been promptly arrested by the police. The police are conducting a thorough legal investigation into all aspects of this case to ensure that the victim’s family gets justice.
