This is just to remain in the news… Opposition complains to Election Commission against PM Modi's 'dhyan'

Lok Sabha Elections 2024: After the campaigning for the last seventh phase of the Lok Sabha elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will go to Kanyakumari for his spiritual journey, where he will meditate at the Vivekananda Rock Memorial till June 1. As soon as this information came out, the opposition raised questions and lodged a complaint with the Election Commission.

CPI complained to the Election Commission

In this program, CPI (M) Tamil Nadu Secretary K. Balakrishnan has written a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner demanding a ban on the broadcast of news related to the PM's 'meditation' in Kanyakumari. Balakrishnan said in his complaint that the PM wants to meditate, it is his personal choice. But its live broadcast by the media will become a big propaganda material for Modi and the BJP. He also said that the Prime Minister's being in the headlines till the day of elections is a serious violation of the code of conduct.

Congress delegation meets Election Commission

Apart from the CPI (M) secretary, the Congress delegation also met the Election Commission. In which the PM objected to meditating from the evening of May 30 to June 1. Giving information about this, senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi said that we have told the Election Commission that no one should be allowed to campaign directly or indirectly during the 48-hour silence period. We have no objection to this, whether a leader takes a silent vow or something else. But this indirect campaign should not happen during the silence period.

The broadcast should not be allowed: Abhishek Manu Singhvi

Abhishek Manu Singhvi said that we have put forward two very simple issues before the Election Commission. Either the Prime Minister starts his silent and spiritual fast 24 to 48 hours later on the evening of June 1 but if he insists on starting it from Thursday evening then his media coverage is banned. He himself is a candidate in this last phase. There are more than 50 Lok Sabha seats to vote and such broadcasts should not be allowed.

Why is 'dhyaan' being done: DMK

DMK's Elangovan said, “I don't know why this attention is being paid. This announcement could have been made after the elections were over, but he is doing it in the last phase because he wants people to understand that he is a devotee of God. He wants to show people that he is a Hindu. He believes in God, so people vote for him.” This is an indirect way of influencing people which is against all the rules of the Election Commission.
