There is an ongoing discussion about Vinesh Phogat being disqualified from the Paris Olympics 2024. Meanwhile, the name of another veteran player has come into the limelight. India's veteran tennis player Shashi Kumar Mukund is in the headlines for his suspension. Shashi Kumar Mukund has criticized the All India Tennis Association (AITA) for his suspension.
The legendary tennis star has accused the All India Tennis Association (AITA) of not allowing him to participate in the Davis Cup earlier this year. The association claimed that Mukund had refused to play against Pakistan earlier this year, due to which he was banned for 2 matches. Mukund claimed that the association has imposed a ban which no one was aware of.
Why was Sashi Kumar Mukund banned?
Indian tennis star Sasikumar Mukund said that he has been banned for two matches by the association for refusing to play against Pakistan this year. The two-time ban means that Mukund will not be included in the next two times the Indian tennis team plays in any country. Mukund claimed that the team captain Rohit Rajpal and the coach had asked him to go on the Sweden tour, but he did not go due to poor management. He does not have a visa and he has probably been banned for hurting someone's ego.
Banned for 2 matches
The association has banned Shashikumar Mukund for 2 matches. Shashikumar Mukund is accused of refusing to go with the national team thrice, due to which action has been taken against him. He will not be able to go to Sweden to play the match as he has been banned for 2 matches. Apart from this, whenever the team tours next, Shashikumar will not be included in the team for that match due to the ban.
Clarification given on Instagram
Sharing a post on his Instagram account, Sasikumar Mukund wrote, 'Completely wrong information and complete nonsense. I was asked by the captain and coach to play and I decided not to play because firstly I did not have a visa and secondly I did not want to go there due to poor management. I think the second reason was that someone's ego was hurt and he banned me, which no one knew about except me. If I was banned, why was I asked? I requested that my name not be published in the press and that is what happened.
And secondly, I have never heard of a player being banned for not playing a match. Code of conduct or discipline could be a reason. If I am banned for not playing a match, then many officials should be banned for life, because they spend the player's money on single malt whisky for every match and steal the player's prize money for this.
