A major theft incident has come to light in Italy. Some 49 gold artefacts were stolen from an exhibition near Lake Garda on Wednesday night. All these statues were created by Italian sculptor Umberto Mastroianni.
Forty-nine works of art worth 1.2 million euros (over US$1.3 million), Like a Warm, Flowing Gold, were stolen from the exhibition. The exhibition opened in late December and was scheduled to close on Friday, March 8.
Where did the 48 statues disappear?
According to the report, one of the 49 idols was named Umo/Dona (male/female). The latter scene was seen in the exhibition premises itself. However, information about the other 48 statues is not yet available. A spokesperson for the estate said the theft was being investigated. Giordana Bruno Guerri, president of the estate, said she believed the theft was the work of a large gang.
