Team India: When Sachin Tendulkar was once asked during a program who could break his records, he named Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Both these Indian players broke big records on the cricket field but now the time has come for them to retire. Both these senior players have retired from T20 but are still playing ODIs and Tests. Rohit Sharma is now 37 years old and Virat Kohli will turn 36 in November. Now the question arises who can replace them. Meanwhile, veteran leg-spinner Piyush Chawla named Shubman Gill and Rituraj Gaikwad.
Piyush Chawla feels that Gill and Gaikwad can replace Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in the Indian team in the future. However, it will not be easy for Gaikwad as he is still struggling to make his place in the team.
Piyush Chawla said, 'Shubman Gill, because of the kind of technique he has, when you are going through a bit of bad form, the batsman who is technically strong comes out of bad form quickly. You see, any batsman who has a good technique cannot remain out of form for long. So in my opinion definitely Shubman Gill and Rituraj Gaikwad.'
Rituraj Gaikwad, who made his debut in 2021, has played 6 ODIs and 23 T20 matches for India so far, in which he has a T20 century to his name. He could not make his place in the team consistently.
On this issue, Chawla said, 'He is part and parcel, he will keep going… but you see, whenever he gets a chance, he comes and looks different.' That is why both these players are special for me.
