Jammu and Kashmir election results: Counting of votes for the assembly elections held in Jammu and Kashmir is nearing completion. Till the time of writing the news, the government of National Conference and Congress seems to be formed. However, BJP has also emerged as a powerful party in the state. Exit polls have shown the National Conference alliance getting an overwhelming majority. The alliance of Congress and National Conference has given a tough competition to BJP. And has established itself as a strong contender. Let us know what are the reasons for this alliance getting majority…

1. Alliance before political elections

The National Conference and Congress formed an alliance before the elections with the aim of avoiding a hung assembly. Because, he doubted that BJP could emerge strongly in the state. With this alliance, he prevented vote splitting and presented a strong alternative to BJP. NC contested on 51 seats and Congress on 32 seats. Whereas Dostana had contested elections on five other seats. With this cooperation he had to win votes against BJP and other local parties.

2. Wave against BJP

There was a lot of communal feeling against BJP in the state. There was a wave against BJP especially in Muslim dominated areas except Jammu. However, BJP got strong support in Jammu. The result was that it has emerged as a strong party. The NC and Congress alliance took advantage of this sentiment and wave. Raised the issue of removal of Article 370 and maintained that BJP does not represent the interests of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

3. Promise of the Kingdom

The NC-Congress alliance promised statehood. Campaigned for redressal of grievances arising out of political changes initiated by BJP. Voters may not like the Union Territory. Due to this they felt that their dominance as a state had diminished.

4. Running campaigns effectively

Congress and National Conference are old parties in Jammu and Kashmir. Therefore voters are familiar with his work. Secondly, Abdullah family also has good influence in Kashmir region. They have benefited from this. BJP benefited in Jammu region, as Hindu votes there completely went in its favor. Both parties focused their campaigns on local grievances, particularly the demand for Article 370 and restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. The NC regretted the “betrayal” of the PDP to forge an alliance with the BJP, while the Congress promised to give priority to local governance issues.

The participation of senior leaders of both the parties was important in this. Rahul Gandhi and other prominent Congress leaders participated in the rallies to boost the morale of party workers and show their commitment to the region. The NCA also ensured that its leadership was visible during the campaign.

5. The work of the last five years made a difference

Elections are being held after a decade. The people here want a government that will restore the old glory and strength of the state. The National Conference and Congress had raised the issue during their election campaigns that they would give full statehood to the state after winning the elections. Therefore the matter was affected. The campaign strategy included harsh criticism of the BJP's rule in Jammu and Kashmir over the past five years. Leaders like Omar Abdullah claimed that the BJP has failed to fulfill its promises made to the people, especially on employment and representation of Muslims in the government.
