IMD weather update: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for heavy rains for Himachal Pradesh and other states. Earlier this week, the IMD had predicted that heavy to very heavy rains will continue in parts of Himachal Pradesh till August 12. The weather agency has issued an orange alert for heavy rains in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, east Uttar Pradesh, east Madhya Pradesh, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura.
In its forecast, the IMD said that heavy rains will continue over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and parts of Rajasthan till August 12, while moderate rains are expected over Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana, Punjab and Chandigarh on August 10.
The weather agency said Himachal Pradesh is likely to receive heavy to very heavy rain, lightning and thundershowers till Saturday. A yellow alert has been issued in the state from August 12 to 15. The IMD has also warned of low to moderate risk of flash floods in isolated areas of Mandi, Bilaspur, Solan, Sirmaur, Shimla and Kullu districts till Saturday, news agency PTI reported.
Earlier, on August 7, the IMD had reported heavy rainfall across the state, with Joginder Nagar in Mandi district receiving the highest rainfall of 110 mm in 24 hours. The incessant rain has disrupted daily life, making it challenging for residents and visitors. On August 1, cloudburst and flash floods affected Kullu, Mandi and Shimla districts.
Meanwhile, a yellow alert has been issued for Delhi for the next two days. Moderate to heavy rain is expected in the national capital till August 11. According to a PTI report, the weather department has predicted cloudy weather and moderate rain in Delhi NCR on Saturday. On Friday, heavy rains lashed parts of Delhi and NCR, leading to heavy waterlogging and traffic jams in the evening.
