UP government's big step against paper leak

The Yogi Adityanath government of Uttar Pradesh has taken a big step against paper leak in the state. In the cabinet meeting held on Tuesday, the Yogi government has approved the proposal to bring Uttar Pradesh Public Examination Ordinance 2024. According to the information, under this, if found guilty in paper leak, the punishment will be from 2 years to life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1 crore will be imposed.

What is the purpose of the ordinance?

The ordinance introduced by the Yogi government is named Uttar Pradesh Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Ordinance 2024. This ordinance is being brought with the aim of preventing unfair means in public examinations, paper leaks, banning solver gangs and providing for matters connected therewith and incidental thereto.

Where will this apply?

The provisions of this ordinance will also apply to the admission processes of public service recruitment examinations, regularization or promotion examinations, entrance examinations for degree diploma, certificate or educational certificates. The ordinance also makes distribution of fake question papers, creation of fake employment website etc. a punishable offence. Violation of the provisions can attract a minimum punishment of two years to life imprisonment and a fine of up to one crore rupees.

Stringent provisions regarding bail

The ordinance has a provision to recover the financial burden from the solver gang if the exam is affected and to permanently blacklist the companies and service providers involved in exam malpractice. There is also a provision for confiscating property in case of crime. Strict provisions have also been made regarding bail.
