You will find everything from two-wheelers to advanced cars running on the roads of the country. According to the law in India, a person needs a license to drive a vehicle. For example, a license is required to drive a Heavy Motor Vehicle (HMV) or Light Motor Vehicle (LMV) depending on the requirements.

There are some electric vehicles that do not require a driving license to drive. The government is promoting the adoption of EV vehicles in the country. Under this, some rules have been made regarding electric vehicles. However, it is not that you can drive any EV without a license. There are also some conditions for driving without a driving license.

According to the rules of MORTH i.e. Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, the maximum speed of electric vehicles is 25 km per hour. They do not need any kind of driving license or registration to drive on the road.

This simply means that if you buy an EV with a maximum speed of 25 kmph, you will never have to pay a driving license or challan for exceeding the speed. In such a situation, if you are caught by the traffic police, then your challan will not be deducted if you answer the questions asked correctly.

In India, two-wheelers with engine capacity less than 50cc and speed more than 50 kmph do not require a driving license. These vehicles also do not require RC and hence you do not need to visit the RTO for registration.
