There will be major changes in VIP security arrangements in the third term of the Narendra Modi government at the Centre. According to official sources, the responsibility of protecting about a dozen high-risk people deployed under the protection of NSG and ITBP commandos will be handed over to other paramilitary forces.
The central government may soon review the matter. The security cover provided to various political personalities, former ministers, retired bureaucrats and some others may be withdrawn or reduced or upgraded. It has also been decided to implement the long-pending proposal to completely remove the NSG's Black Cat commandos from VIP security duties. According to sources, the responsibility of Z Plus category security of NSG's Black Cat commandos will be handed over to the VIP Security Unit of CRPF. Similarly, some VIPs who are guarded by ITBP personnel may be assigned the security of CRPF personnel or CISF's VIP security branch SSG.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, UP CM Yogi Adityanath, senior BJP leader L.K. Advani, TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu, Union Shipping Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, BSP supremo Mayawati and former Chhattisgarh CM Raman Singh have been provided NSG commando security, while several leaders including Murli Manohar Joshi, Ghulam Nabi Azad and Farooq Abdullah, Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti have been provided security by ITBP personnel.
The central government has decided to reorganise the NSG and use its manpower for commando strike teams in high-risk areas. The central government believes that the NSG should focus its performance on special tasks such as anti-terrorism and anti-hijacking operations.
