There will be big relief from 50 degree ‘feels like’ heat in Delhi-NCR today, IMD issued ‘yellow alert’ of thunderstorm and heavy rain.

After facing the hottest and suffocating day of July in the last two years, the residents of Delhi-NCR are expected to get a big relief from the scorching heat today i.e. Tuesday (7 July 2026). The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘Yellow Alert’ giving the latest forecast of heavy monsoon rains and thunderstorms with thunderstorms in the national capital. According to the Meteorological Department, there will be heavy rains in many parts of Delhi along with strong winds and lightning.

Yesterday was the hottest day of July, the humidity reached 50 degrees.

Last Monday proved to be the hottest July day in Delhi in the last two years. Although the temperature on the thermometer was low, due to excessive moisture and humidity in the air, the temperature felt by the people i.e. ‘Feels Like Temperature’ had reached about 50 degrees Celsius. After this uncomfortable sticky heat, today the maximum temperature is expected to drop to 36 degrees and the minimum to be around 27 degrees Celsius, which will bring great relief to the people of Delhi.

The monsoon line is rapidly strengthening towards North India, due to which the monsoon has now become fully active in the national capital. According to the 7-day weekly forecast of the Meteorological Department, this period of rain starting from today in Delhi will become more intense between July 8 and July 10. During this period, there is a possibility of continuous heavy rains along with thunderstorms, due to which the temperature will fall further.

Increased risk of waterlogging and traffic jams, Meteorological Department issues advisory

While the scorching heat will be cool due to torrential rains, the danger of heavy waterlogging and severe traffic jams is also looming on the roads of Delhi. IMD has issued a special advisory for citizens and travelers saying that visibility can be very low during heavy rains, hence take special care while driving. Along with this, the administration has given strict instructions that during the storm and lightning, people should not even by mistake take shelter under trees, weak roofs or electric poles.
